Two test sections of graded crushed-aggregate base course were tested to develop methods and procedures for obtaining high densities required in heavy-load airfield pavements so that no further appreciable densification will occur under aircraft traffic; one section was compacted with 50-ton rubber-tired roller with tires inflated to 90 psi and other section was compacted with 60-ton rubber-tired roller with tires inflated to 150 psi; it was found that crushed-aggregate base course should be placed and compacted at highest practicable water content.
