D600 unit built by North British Locomotive Co for service on Western Region, has two 12-cyl NBL-MAN pressure charged engines, each rated 1000 bhp at 1445 rpm, and 1100 bhp at 1500 rpm; each engine drives two outer axles of one truck via Voith-North British L306r hydraulic transmission; length over buffers 65 ft; weight in working order 117 ton 8 cwt; max tractive effort at 30% adhesion is 50,000 lb.
