Locomotive, originally built as 4-cyl compound at Darlington works of LNER, converted at Doncaster works to 3-cyl simple engine; three cylinders, 20 in. diam by 26 in. stroke, are cast separately, and exhaust from outside pair is carried to blastpipe base through passages in cast steel saddle; boiler pressure 250 lb per sq in.; total evaporative heating surface 2597.6 sq ft; tractive effort at 85% boiler pressure, is 41,437 lb.
