To increase air charge of two-stroke cycle engines, relations between delivery ratio and engine speed were investigated on rotary disk-value inlet port engine and on conventional piston-valve inlet port engine by varying through wide limits angle area and timing of inlet port; for inlet port configuration tested, it was found that there was optimum cut angle of rotary disk valve, which produced certain angle area; to improve delivery ratio characteristics at given speed, only timing of inlet port by shifting disk valve around crankshaft had to be changed; for piston-valve inlet port engine, results showed that wide, low port produced higher delivery ratio over entire engine speed range than narrow, high port.
