Program was conceived by U S Army Tank-Automotive Command as attempt to quantify cross-country speed portion of vehicle mobility spectrum; two separate tests were established; first determined relative cross-country performance of nine different vehicles by utilizing 18 drivers and 27 test courses in three varied terrains for total of 563 test runs; second test quantified effect of varying driver's vision on cross-country performance of armored, track-laying vehicle; in both tests data consisted of average time required for vehicle to travel between two established points with free path in between; investigation has highlighted several several significant points which are indicated.
