Studies were conducted using model of XM453 eight-wheel cargo truck and M59 full tracked personnel carrier on slope with nondeformable surface; experiments were designed to measure loading parameters on river bank as vehicle negotiated bank in attempt to exit stream from floating position; all significant parameters (resultant loading on slope, buoyancy effects, track or wheel contact area, vehicle trim angle and towing effort) were found to be functions of distance along bank from first point of contact and angle of inclination of bank; resistance to forward motion is developed rapidly and vehicle efficiency can be defined by nondimensional relationships among grade resistance, normal force on bank, vehicle ground contact area and trim angle.
