One of more recent areas where automation has been used to accomplish improved results over those obtained by manual operation is in bituminous paving industry; application of automatic grade and slope control systems to modern floated screed asphalt paver dramatically evidences higher level of paving efficiencies and better riding roads normally expected when electronics augment human operator; control systems are rugged, reliable, easily operated, and low cost in relation to economics of operation.
