Term Pogo is derived from similarity observed in out-of-phase motion of ends of vehicles to action of Pogo stick; Pogo oscillations result from interaction between longitudinal structural mode of vibration and liquid propulsion system; linear mathematical model is used to establish transfer functions for stability analysis; propulsion system exhibits resonance at frequencies determined by pump cavitation and suction line wave propagation characteristics; system is examined from closed and open-loop standpoint; proximity of suction line first resonance to natural frequency of structural mode is significant stability factor.
