U S Navy's all-weather satellite navigation system has been in operational use since July 1964; satellites transmit orbital information and constant-frequency carriers so that shipboard doppler receiver and computer can obtain accurate position fix of ship at time of satellite pass above ship's horizon; this paper presents very brief review of navigation system, theoretical description of satellite doppler data received, and simplified description of computations required to obtain navigation fix.
