Discussion of problem that remains complex despite availability of iterative programs prepared at University of Strathclyde for solving constant-weight catenary equations used in connection with mooring of ships; problem is to determine load on moorings (for tanker in offshore loading berth) in terms of given wind strength and direction, and particularly effect of position of beam mooring on individual loads, which was studied for four arrangements; diagram shows maximum load to which any mooring can be subjected, irrespective of wind force or direction, thus defining most efficient mooring for all conditions but not necessarily for any one given condition.
