Data are for first of new series of cargo liners of 12,000 tons dw and service speed of 16 1/2 knots, built for Compagnie Maritime Belge by Cockerill-Ougree; except for thrust and wind, all information on weather, propulsion and ship motion was obtained autographically as well as by readings during sea trials which extended over 10 mo; data are analyzed; model tests in smooth water and self-propulsion experiments in regular waves of different lengths and various headings were made at Netherlands Ship Model Basin, towed experiments in regular and irregular head waves at M.I. T., and wind tests at von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics of Rhode-Saint-Genese.
