Trafficability tests were conducted in muskeg areas at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, with M116 amphibious cargo carrier, M59 armored personnel carrier, M41 combat tank, and M60A1 combat tank: self-propelled, go-no go tests were conducted with all four vehicles; maximum-drawbar-pull tests were conducted with M116, M59, and M41; and cross-country speed tests were conducted with M116 and M59; results indicate that combination of depth to permafrost and strength of muskeg layer above permafrost affects vehicle performance on go-no go basis.
