Water was circulated as heat transport fluid for space suit cooling as improvement over cooling by ventilation; water has advantage of much larger heat capacity than equal volume of water vapor over same temperature difference making heat removal from space suit possible at significant weight and power savings; experiments were performed on men working in liquid cooled garments which used conductive cooling of skin by direct contact, and heat transport by circulating water; feasibility of concept was demonstrated and design factors were identified; results show cooling capacity able to maintain body temperature equilibrium at metabolic rates in excess of 2000 Btu/hr with comfort.
