Mathematical model developed investigates feasibility of retrieval technique for extravehicular operation; technique consists of astronaut moving along tetherline connected between spacecraft and "anchor mass" in space; model is obtained by writing rotational equations of motion for rigid body spacecraft, translational equations of motion for "point mass" man and "point mass" anchor, and equations of constraint relating distance between spacecraft, astronaut, and anchor mass; it is found that line-wrap, excessive spacecraft rotation rates, and terminal velocities of astronaut cause technique to be considered unacceptable.
