Trends common to future missions affecting computer system design are examined; first trend is toward greater variety of more complex equipment; second is toward longer operational periods and third trend involves larger crew size; computer support will vary considerably with mission phase and new approach in designing computer system is needed; three computer system concepts are studied and it is shown that multiprocessing system provides high system reliability and flexibility, meeting efficiency demands of sophisticated, long-term space missions; requirements of future aircraft operations.
