There are three rescue backups that can be considered for orbital manned spaceflight emergencies, i.e. separately launched, manned rescue vehicle, unmanned spacecraft remotely controlled from ground and/or disabled space vehicle, self-erecting or inflatable personal rescue device of "space parachute," with integral re-entry; tabulation of potential rescue/utility vehicles; carried-along manned ejection capsule is promising approach that could offer feasible alternative to launched space rescue missions, which are themselves difficult, time-consuming and often hazardous; Egress (Emergency Global Rescue, Escape, and Survival System) concept appears to offer many advantages for escape from orbit.
