Three-degree-of-freedom mathematical analysis is presented giving motion of typical vehicle during recovery; method yields parachute loads for variety of vehicle dynamic conditions and parachute configurations, enabling designer to predict undesirable recovery attitudes; computer runs were made on IBM-7090 computer for recovery and compared to results from air drop tests; excellent agreement was obtained; method is pertinent to numerous aerial delivery, personnel escape systems and Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo recovery systems.
