Design of buoy used for acoustic research by U S Naval Oceanographic Office; hydrophone, contained in cylindrical reel, is suspended by 1000-ft two-wire cable from buoy which holds signal processing and telemetry equipment; shipboard equipment comprises antenna, receiver, amplifier and recorder; requirement was for hydrophone to operate at 445 psi with good frequency response, and maximum hydrostatic pressure of unit used is 800 psi; FM telemetry is used for data transmission from buoy to ship at frequency of 34.180 mc.
