Loading plates and decks which are inadequately secured against slipping, tipping or breaking are frequent causes of accidents; examples are given of safe portable and traveling loading decks, distinction being made between decks used between ramps and freight cars and those used between ramps and trucks; because of great difference in level to be bridged in this case, suitable designs are important; in addition to mobile loading decks, there are fixed versions operated mechanically, oil-hydraulically or manually (using counter-weight to facilitate operation).
