History of early development; first Sentinel-Cammell steam cars were tried on Jersey Railways and were great success, and in 1924 first official test on British railway took place; essential feature of steam coach is its economy in operation in comparison with ordinary train; Sentinel-Cammell locomotives are driven by two vertical cylinders driving onto crankshaft and thence by chains to rail wheels; use engine in switching at wayside stations to relieve engines of pick-up freight trains.
