Attempt is made to show that problem of ensuring sufficient stability of ocean-going passenger ships can be solved by enforcement of few simple rules and precautions, without unduly prejudicing commercial interests, and without interfering appreciably with requirements essential to comfortable movement of ships; discussion is limited to case where flooding takes place so near amidships that influence on stability of change of trim can be disregarded.
