Saturn-I testing program made possible additional payload capability of 4300 lb without major redesign efforts; first 4 Saturn-I vehicles were designated Block I, remaining 6 Block II; differences between Block I and II vehicles are pointed out; 8 Rocketdyne H-1 engines, 4 fixed inboard and 4 gimbaled outboard, provide total standard sea-level thrust of 1,320,000 lb, burning lox and JP-1 propellants; evaluation of Saturn flights, using Performance Evaluation Program and Mark-IV Computer Program; hardware changes used from Block I to II, and operational changes planned with respect to reduction of holddown time, lox depletion cutoff, reduced lox pressure and lox tank ullage volume.
