Jet blast deflector (JBD) is used on aircraft carriers to protect other aircraft, equipment, and personnel from hot exhaust blast of jet-powered aircraft; analytic and test program, conducted by General Dynamics Corp to determine temperature field and heat transfer resulting from deflection of jet engine exhaust, showed that strong forward flow of exhaust gas existed; effect of engine-blast deflector separation and blast deflector skew angle on temperature field, for situations modeling F-111B relationship to existing blast-deflector designs are defined; supplementary deflector can minimize forward flow of hot exhaust gases.
