Review of several types of nozzles for lift and lift/cruise engines; model test data are presented for short nonvectoring plug type, and simple, hemispherical-plug, vectoring nozzle; it was found that thrust and discharge coefficients obtained with simple vectoring nozzle were substantially independent of flow-deflection angle; it is shown that attempts to shorten and lighten lift-engine nozzles by eliminating whirl-removing surfaces may incur severe performance penalties; oblique-joint, elliptical shape nozzle for vectoring lift/cruise engine thrust is described and test data obtained with homogeneous flow are presented and conclusions drawn.
