Objective Train turn-back interval time is a critical factor influencing the throughput capacity of normal conducting high-speed maglev lines. Due to the significant differences in train operation control principles between maglev and traditional rail transit systems, the findings about train turn-back interval from conventional wheel-rail transportation studies are not directly applicable. It is aimed to conduct targeted research based on the operational control characteristics of normal conducting high-speed maglev systems. Method Focusing on the typical single crossover turn-back mode of high-speed maglev train systems, through analyzing the turn-back operation process, a calculation model for train turn-back interval time is established, deriving its analytical algorithm. Various influencing factors, such as train turn-back method, train formation, station dwell time, and traction power supply zoning, are considered. Simulation calculation analysis is conducted with reference to the operational conditions of Shanghai Maglev Demonstration Line. Result & Conclusion The results indicate that when stations are divided into single sections, the turn-back interval time before station is shorter than after station, while it is converse when stations are divided into double or quadruple sections. The division of traction power zoning has little impact on the turn-back interval time before station, but significantly shortens the turn-back interval time after station. Additionally, the turn-back interval time under quadruple sections is generally less than that under double sections. However, for turn-back stations where the boarding operation time significantly exceeds the alighting operation time, the turn-back intervals are similar between the two division cases.
