Objective The flexible adjustment of train marshalling is an important measure and development trend for urban rail transit train traction energy saving. In order to achieve precise delivery of transport capacity, reduce operational energy consumption and cost, it is necessary to study the flexible train marshalling technology in urban rail transit under the dual carbon (carbon peak and carbon neutrality) background. Method The distribution characteristics of passenger flows in different forecast years, weeks, daily periods, and in different sections of the whole line during peak hours are analyzed. Based on the optimum match between transport capacity and demand, the operation scenarios applicable to the three operation schemes (fixed train marshalling operation, train online coupling/de-marshalling operation, and virtual train marshalling operation) with flexible train marshalling technology are analyzed. The configuration requirements of each system under different operation schemes are elaborated. Result & Conclusion All the three operation schemes with different train marshalling have their applicability and advantages under different operation scenarios. Both the train online coupling/de-marshalling operation scheme and the train virtual marshalling operation scheme have broad application space.
