This research work presents a Network Control System (NCS) methodology using Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) control framework. A network controlled hydro power plant using LPV control framework was used as a case study. The linearized plant has been assumed to be controlled remotely over a wireless or wired network. The controller action to hydro plant and the plant output to controller input signals are considered to be transmitted over different networks with a bounded network delay and associated packet drops. The forward and backward network communication delays have been modelled using the Pade approximation while the packets carrying the control signals in both the forward and backward channels are modelled as two separate LPV systems such that the accurately received and lost packets are used as the real-time time-varying parameter that can be measurable in future periods. The communication network LPV characteristics are expressed in terms of a polytopic parameter-dependent model to efficiently characterize the overall network operations for received and lost packets and the associated LPV controller synthesis perspectives are detailed. Different NCS LPV setups were considered and their performances were also compared. The networked controlled LPV controller synthesis and simulation results clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the framework for networked control system with delay and packet loss on stability and performance as compared to some of the past NCS methodologies. The LPV control approach also allows flexibility and ease of use in different network control system applications as presented by different allowable LPV NCS control setups in this thesis work.
