The article presents loading equipment intended for loading containers onto / from ships, loading in the terminal or on railway platforms. The advantages of each loading technique are described, the main technical criteria are distinguished that characterize the loading equipment and determine its choice. After analysis of the characteristics of stacking equipment for containers, it can be said that Mobile Harbor – is a universal crane which has a maximum lifting capacity of up to 150t, while Rail Tyred Gantry crane has the lowest lifting capacity– 45t. The lifting height of all loading equipment is similar (from 12m to 25m). The most productive and reliable crane is Rail Tyred Gantry crane, as it is most used in port terminals worldwide. When comparing loading equipment for container loading, it was found that the biggest number of containers per hectare is loaded by the Rail Mounted Gantry crane (up to 1100 TEU), the lowest number by Reach Stakers loader (up to 500 TEU). It was established that intensive container terminal loading work and high terminal efficiency can only be achieved by properly selecting container loading equipment and a correctly chosen number of loading equipment necessary in the container terminal.
