Aiming at the traffic safety and congestion problems caused by rapid urbanization, based on the traffic safety and operational efficiency of highway, the minimum standards for highway entrances and exits spacing were studied. According to the typical design parameters, such as highway function and technical grade, number of lanes, design speed, design service level, design capacity and minimum operating speed, the types of highway entrances and exits and spacing in rapid urbanization areas were classified. Based on the analysis of the influencing factors and influencing ranges of highway entrances, and exits spacing in rapid urbanization areas, the access spacing model of highway entrances and exits on the same side and on both sides were established, and the minimum spacing standards between entrances and exits based on traffic safety and operational efficiency were proposed. The research results can provide effective theoretical and technical guidance for the construction and management of highway entrances and exits in rapid urbanization areas. It is of great significance to improve the safety and capacity of highway entrances and exits and reduce travel delays.
