This paper presents a novel method of road shape describing, in which the real time sequence road images are shot by cameras fixed on Autonomous Navigation Vehicles (ANV) placed on a structured road. Through the pre-processing of real time images, the road lines in images are extracted in real time. Further, a parameterized road shape describing method is also proposed. All parameters' meanings are indicated and the real time parameter calculating problem is settled. The experiment results present that accuracy of real time parameter obtaining is above 99.1%. This method will provide basic data sustainment for research on Initiative Safety Technology (IST) of ANV which require real time road information, such as Vehicle Deviation Warning System, etc.
