Transportation is one of the main air pollutant emission sources, which means urban transportation planning plays a decisive role in air pollution from mobile sources. Differing from the research on the traditional urban transportation planning with the goal of fast movement of people and vehicles, this study focuses on reaching the goal of environmental protection from the perspective of urban transportation planning. By studying the relation chain of “planning-travel-vehicle-emission,” this paper uses the models to link and analyze the links among them, and links the urban planning to the route, mode of travel and the air pollution produced by it, and proposes a linkage mechanism for urban transportation planning and environmental protection objectives applicable to Chinese cities.
