Based on the analysis of the waybills characteristics, this paper analyzes the feasibility of using weighted Apriori algorithm to forecast the rail freight volume. Then it describes the steps of the algorithm's realization and tests the algorithm's property. It forecasts the rail freight volume of Lanzhou Railway Beau in March 2005 with the calculating results. Then it compares the real value with the forecasting value. It turns out that it is feasible to forecast the volume of rail freight by weighted Apriori algorithm. The forecasting value of rail freight volume is very close to its real value.
