Trade and freight industry in China have grown rapidly since the reform and opening, and China has the largest expressway network in the world. However, current vehicles cannot meet requirements for safe, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly transportation of road freight. A potential answer to this problem is longer combination vehicles (LCVs), which can improve transport efficiency, reduce traffic congestion, and lower fuel consumption. The present situation of LCV was illustrated through the introduction of existing programs in many countries. The evolution of freight vehicle types demonstrates development from trucks to multi-vehicle combinations. This new generation of efficient road freight equipment focuses on intelligence, modularity, and lightweight.
