This paper concentrates on the fuel economy of autonomous vehicle platoons. An autonomous vehicle platoon driving on the highway scenario is studied, the fuel economy of the vehicle platoon is compared with the manual driving vehicles by using simulations. The simulation results show that fuel consumption can be reduced about 9.9% by using the platoon operation, and pollution levels can be decreased by a large margin.
