The ground public transportation is an effective way to ease the urban traffic congestion. Its scheduling, efficiency analysis, and management need to be based on the operating data of the bus lines. Because of the difficulty in acquiring the passenger flow and the running status of the bus line, the analysis method should be proposed. Based on the principle of MAC address acquisition and the association process between WiFi devices and access point in wireless LAN environment, the identity of passengers is obtained. Thus, the number of passengers equipped with WiFi devices combining with the statistical of the bus GPS data is known. The bus analysis system for passenger flow and running status is developed by fusing multi-source data. Specifically, the bus space is defined and a distance function is constructed. On this basis, the structure of MAC address information and GPS data are fully analyzed. The operating data, i.e., the passenger flow information (including the passenger flow boarding and alighting and stranded at stops, the section flow, and the origin-destination information of passengers) and bus information (e.g., the speed and the waiting time) could be computed in real-time. Besides, their accuracy is improved by the MAC address filtering technology. The case study in Hangzhou shows that the results of the proposed method can reflect the running status and the passenger flow of the bus.
