Distance headway is one of the important components in car-following theory. The rule of distance headway movement in acceleration & deceleration car-following regimes is described in this paper. Based on the car-following behavior data collected by an instrumented GPS vehicle in real traffic flow, several regression models between distance headway and speed were built. The distance headway — speed model is linear, and the headway — speed model is exponential in acceleration & deceleration car-following regime.
