The travel time of and reliability of car commuting is of great significance to traffic guidance and traffic operation management. In this research the travel time and the acceptable congestion time of car commuting that occurs during morning peak hours on weekdays in Beijing was investigated by adopting the revealed preference approach. The available data indicates that the travel time and the average acceptable congestion time of car commuters can be expressed by a logarithmic function. The travel time reliability model was studied by the travel time and the acceptable congestion time of car commuters. Based on data from video monitors, the travel time reliability of car commuters that depart from the origin in each 15-min time period on the main commuter corridors was studied. The analysis of travel time reliability is useful for supporting measures to relieve Beijing’s traffic congestion.
