This study investigates the potential of BeamNG.tech as a transformative tool for driving simulation in transportation research. Existing simulation platforms face limitations, such as outdated graphics, high costs, and complex interfaces, which can compromise their effectiveness in analyzing driver behavior, testing autonomous vehicles, and exploring traffic management strategies. BeamNG.tech, with its advanced features, including real-time vehicle physics, virtual reality integration, and user-friendly design, addresses these challenges. Using the PRISMA framework, a systematic review of 428 publications was conducted, revealing a significant gap in the literature regarding the use of BeamNG.tech for driver behavior analysis. The review highlights the platform’s advantages over traditional simulators, emphasizing its potential to enhance research validity while reducing costs. The study provides a novel perspective on the future of transportation research, encouraging further exploration of BeamNG.tech’s applications in addressing complex safety, efficiency, and technology integration challenges.
