Electric vehicles (EV) play an important role in renewable energy projects. However, the limited driving range of EVs makes it critical to build a charging infrastructure network. This paper analyzes the charging station layout of EV based on the simulated trajectory. The existing mathematical program model focuses on the balance between power and traffic network without considering the real-world travel patterns. The travel demand utilized cannot cover the residents’ daily trips. Thus, cellphone signaling data was utilized to generate the travel demand. The daily trajectory was built by merging discrete trips of different travel purposes through simulation. The charging behavior of medium range (around 100 km) EVs was analyzed in the case study. Moreover, commonly used clustering approaches were utilized to produce the charging station layout. Through the comparison analysis, an effective layout of charging stations is recommended, which can also contribute to design the charging station network.
