With the increasing size of cruise ships and the gradual effects of climate change, there is a growing need to reassess port infrastructure. Many ports, originally designed to older standards, may no longer be fully suited to accommodate modern vessels and evolving environmental conditions. This study presents an optimization approach aimed at improving port layouts, focusing on berth configurations and the strategic placement of bollards to reduce vessel movement, minimize forces on bollards, and ease stress on mooring lines to accommodate the modern cruise vessels. Using a multi-objective optimization framework, we consider environmental factors, such as wind, waves, and currents, while evaluating a cruise vessel under dynamic mooring conditions. By adhering to UFC, PIANC, and ASCE guidelines, this research supports the development of ports that are more resilient, adaptable, and prepared to meet future demands of the cruise industry.
