This paper studies the dynamic control scheme of variable guidance lanes in urban intersections with unbalanced traffic flows in various directions. The paper first analyzes the form and setting conditions of variable guidance lanes at intersections and establishes a flow threshold model for variable guidance lane settings based on the queuing delay model. Then, the dynamic control model of variable guidance lane is constructed, achieving real-time dynamic control of variable guidance lane through three modules: short-term flow prediction based on random forest, lane function decision-making by K-nearest neighbor algorithm, and signal timing coordination scheme optimization. Finally, combined with examples, the proposed dynamic control method for variable guidance lanes is simulated and implemented using VISSIM and MATLAB joint simulation, and the effect of this dynamic control model on improving traffic operation is verified. The study can provide a reference for practical urban traffic management.
