Considering the necessity of empty car distribution in railway freight transportation, analyzing the factors that influence the efficiency of empty car distribution on a railway network, an index system was determined to evaluate the efficiency of empty car distribution and build a fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model of empty car distribution efficiency on a railway network. The model was adopted to evaluate the efficiency of empty car distribution on the Lanzhou railway, and operating measures were put forth to ensure empty car distribution efficiency and increase the turnover efficiency of empty wagons on the railway network. This is of important practical significance in improving the quality of rail freight transportation.
