According to the traffic safety actuality of the vulnerable road user at urban intersections, the traffic safety assessment method was proposed based on BP neural network. Based on defining and classifying the concept of the vulnerable road user, travel demand of the different categories of the vulnerable road user from the aspects of physiological characteristics and social characteristics was concluded. Then safety assessment indexes system was built from two goals of traffic facilities and traffic organization. Finally, the comprehensive assessment software based on BP neural network was developed by C++ computer language. The result shows that the model of BP neural network was used in the assessment system of the vulnerable road user traffic safety at urban intersections, which has good applicability. It was proved by the example and showed that the method is operable and the result is credible.
