As the existing of the wheel/rail wear and abrade, wheel/rail contact state will have a deviation with the symmetrical state. The wheel/rail unsymmetrical problem caused by the change of wheel/rail geometric contact parameters was analyzed. The classification of typical wheel/rail unsymmetrical contact has done according to the wheel/rail unsymmetrical form reason. Wheel tread wear, crack, spalling, etc. wheel tread shape change and rail corrugation and side grinding, rail surface shelling and spalling, and asymmetry and geometrical irregularity about right and left rails all can lead the happen of unsymmetrical contact, and the wheel diameter difference is also an important reason. The influence of wheel/rail unsymmetrical contact was studied; put forward that through choosing reasonable wheel/rail profile, rail grinding, vehicle parameter optimization and timely detection, strong wheel/rail unsymmetrical contact can be avoid.
