Considering the existing problems of high damage rates inflexible settings, and poor data reliability of the traditional loop detector, this paper proposes a dynamic detection method for intersection traffic state based on intelligent video analysis. This method is verified by timing optimization at an actual signalized intersection. Practical operation results show that the traffic state parameters of signalized intersections were detected accurately and effectively, and the problems that existed in the traditional loop detector were overcome. Meanwhile, the traffic efficiency was also significantly improved by this new method. The method of real-time optimization and control of traffic signal based on intelligent video analysis could be widely used in traffic signal control and has a wide range of application and practical value.
