Based on the analysis of two instable limit states that vehicles do not roll or sway, combined with a driving stability model and numerical simulation of porous media model, this paper establishes a freeway safety evaluation model. By using the software FLUENT to simulate the wind field around the freeway windbreaks, the effects of windbreaks was investigated to protect vehicle safety from windbreak structure and road parameters. The results indicate that windbreaks have a significant effect on reducing the crosswind the vehicles suffered and it is meaningful to protect vehicle safety. Furthermore, the shelterbelt porosity plays an important role in wind resistance. The smaller the shelterbelt porosity, the better the security potency will be. The effect of changing the height of shelterbelts is not so obvious. Plane curve radius and transverse slope has a great influence on security potency of windbreaks, while the impact of road longitudinal slope is not that obvious.
