In this paper the process of erosion by solid particles in gaseous flow is numerically studied. The study includes the influence of the basic and widespread turbulence models and the new GEKO turbulence model on the erosive wear in a pipe elbow, while the erosion process itself is modeled using the Finnie model. It was found that the choice of the turbulence model is of decisive importance for the velocity profiles of the continuous phase, which in turn affects the behavior of the wear profiles. The simulation results show good agreement with openly published experimental data [1] and the choice of the turbulence models is discussed.
