The conceptual design of a modular array of close‐spaced thermionic converters is described. This module design utilizes individual converters that have been fabricated and are now being tested to verify high efficiency performance and stable operation. These converters have been given the name ‘‘Effect.’’ Hypothetical applications of this module design are made for various space power system configurations. The concept looks favorable integrated with the SP‐100 nuclear reactor heat source for spacecraft power. It also could be designed with the SP‐100 reactor into a combined cycle with a Stirling bottoming cycle for lunar or Mars surface power application.
