With increasing environmental awareness, natural fibres form a group of environmentally friendly material which could offer benefits as reductions in weight, cost, and CO2 and could allow recyclability. For this investigation, the tensile properties of woven and leaf buri palm reinforced polyester composites were investigated. The composites were prepared using hand lay-up technique, producing samples of different geometry based on the wrap and weft directions, each consisting of three layers. The tensile strength of a normal fabrics tends to be a bit higher on the warp direction indicating that that would be a good orientation for the composite. The dimensions of the tests specimens were based on ASTM D3039. The investigation showed that the 3-layer buri leaf fibre has higher tensile stress at maximum load when compared to the 3-layer buri woven fibre due to the nature of the leaf fibre.
