The paper looks at experience drawn from soil landings of Soviet «Venera 9-14» and «Vega 1-2» landers. The experience can be useful for developing joint Russian-American mission «Venera-D» with the aim of delivering a long-lasting automatic space lander to the surface of Venus. By landing the paper means the final moment of lander’s descent in the atmosphere, when the lander directly contacts the soil. The reason for successful landings on Venus soil of Soviet «Venera 9-14» and «Vega 1-2» landers is explained. 8 landers with toroidal landing gear made successful landings in the period of ten years. Recommendations for developing future systems for landing on Venusian soil are given.
